What is BMI and why should I care?
BMI stands for Body Mass Index and is a measure of the ratio between your height and weight. The higher the number the more you are considered overweight. A BMI of 25.0 or more is overweight, while the healthy range is 18.5 to 24.9. Tummy tuck surgery is best done when patients are within the healthy range.
A BMI between 25 and 30 does not automatically exclude a person from considering surgery but cases must be carefully assessed and the final decision would also include age and other health factors. Anyone with a BMI over 30 should not have this type of elective surgery, the risks of problems are too high and the results of tummy tuck surgery are not as successful. Losing weight should be a priority to establish better health in general.
