Does OHIP or other provincial health plans cover Tummy tuck surgery?
This is one of the most frequent questions asked of Toronto Tummy Tuck specialist Dr. Wayne Carman. Unfortunately a tummy tuck is not covered by OHIP or any other provincial health plan. It is considered a cosmetic surgery procedure that the patient must pay for privately. Even though tummy problems have come from pregnancy or weight loss, OHIP unfortunately considers this surgery “for appearance only”. Regrettably, they are not very flexible with their policies.
OHIP will sometimes cover a panniculectomy procedure upon giving individual approval. But a panniculectomy is just the removal of a large apron of skin. It is not the same as a tummy tuck.
Financing is available through Medicard (iFinance) which can be discussed at yourconsultation or click here for more info.
